A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §18-2-5i, relating to authorizing the boards of education to create a dashboard to display certain information; permitting that parents or students may access the dashboard; permitting for rule-making authority; and establishing an effective date.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:


ARTICLE 2. STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION.

§18-2-5i. Dashboard display of school assignments.

All school boards shall develop a method of online notification for a student or parent to access the student’s class schedule, upcoming due dates for homework, chapter, or other assignments, key test dates and the material the test will cover, and general classroom announcements. The State Board of Education may promulgate rules in accordance with §29A-3-1 et seq. of this code to establish uniformity among the various school boards in this state and to effectuate this section. This section shall take effect July 1, 2020.

 

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to authorize school boards to create a dashboard displaying information for parents and students.
